This adaptive reuse project involved the existing Shops Building, the former Powerhouse and the Pump House Structure. All structures were historically restored, along with the central water supply system originating at the Pump House.
At the existing Shops Building, our adaptive reuse and historic preservation/restoration included: re-roofing, adding insulation and proper establishment of vapor barrier, and providing adequate ventilation space so that ice dams were prevented. Because of the many dormers and valleys present in the roof structure, ice and water shield was specified to cover the entire roof. New windows and other details of historic importance were recreated. Siding was replaced where it could not be repaired. The interior was remodeled to house offices for a staff of 12, lunch room facilities, and a large conference used by staff and outside groups.
The Carriage House and West Garage were restored, lead paint and asbestos abated, and windows and doors replaced. This completed the DNR’s mission to restore all structures open to the public at the site.
